@likvid_kosatka @9mm_smg Japan wanted a bloody and costly war of attrition on the home islands. It was the decision of the Emperor to surrender that saved many many lives. And without the Soviet invasion of Manchuria, and maybe the nukes (debatable), more people would've died in the end.
