@GenocideAfrica @vanhanenist I mean in 2008 ideas were floated around about Ukraine joining NATO but those kinda went nowhere. 2000-2014 From a Russian perspective the best course of action was to try to get ukraine to become like Kazakhstan or Belarus peacefully.

@GenocideAfrica @vanhanenist I'm sure the west has a role in it, but it's more complicated than just "western coup". Although I think it would've been better to wait till the next election. I understand the grievances of the maidanites though.

@GenocideAfrica @vanhanenist If you're talking about the euromaidan then it's important to remember yanukovych made a campaign promise to further go along with EU integration, that's part of the reason why it happened. Along with him being a corrupt crony even by Ukraine's standards.

@GenocideAfrica @vanhanenist NATO's foreign policy towards Russia during the early 2000s was retarded though, yes.

@GenocideAfrica @vanhanenist I think in the greater context of Russia aligning with the third world it's about 50/50, but in regards to Ukraine the fault is mostly on Russia.

@GenocideAfrica @vanhanenist Even from your standpoint, the mess that his policies caused will most likely take several decades to "fix" even if Russia were to win the war and fully annex Ukraine.

@GenocideAfrica @vanhanenist It was for the most part Russia's decisions that are responsible for Ukraine becoming anti-russian. If Putin had a more rational policy towards Ukraine I doubt most ukrainians would hate Russia today. I'm talking about the past 2 decades btw not just since 2014.

I keep telling myself I'll stop talking about Ukraine on Twitter but my TL is just filled with demented takes on it from both sides and I feed into the cycle by interacting. It's a self destructive cycle. x.com/ArthurM4033082β¦ (βΉ)

@lt884178 @GenocideAfrica I think from a Russian standpoint going in fully made a lot more sense than their course of action in our timeline

@GenocideAfrica I mean, seceding certainly didn't help them in the years of relative peace between 2016-2022. Wages were around a third of that of the ukrainian controlled donbas. Even Zakharchenko admitted living standards were higher in the ukrainian controlled Donbas. pic.x.com/dWAt5FfzZf

If ukronattwt controlled Ukraine
Bonov, Gunther Fehlinger, and Nitrrogen's mom would most likely be added to the list of ukrainian national heroes x.com/Artist_1917/stβ¦ (βΉ)

@GenocideAfrica For reference the "pro-russian neocons" have similar stances on the war to me.

@GenocideAfrica Ukrainians contributed a lot to the war effort of the Soviet Union, but I just think saying 1/3rd of the red army was ukrainian is misleading. However the red army that went into Eastern Europe in 1944-45 would've probably been a quarter to a third ukrainian
