Chechnya was either directly subject to, or in a subordinate position to these powers. Even today Chechya remains a loyal subject of Russia.

The Chechens are a very interesting people. They managed to win one war against Russia when it was in total economic ruin - and now try to use this as some sort of "own", as if less than half a decade later they weren't once again subject to Russian rule. pic.twitter.com/z3ejPW6xwA

One day, I hope the ethnic demographics of Chechnya return to Pre-1958 levels. Their repatriation was widely unpopular, and in retrospect - a terrible move.
